The 2021 New Year’s Eve Ball Drop will be different from the usual, as One Time Square aims to leverage the metaverse to celebrate the New Year Day specially. Digital Currency Group has collaborated with Jamestown to achieve this by recreating and launching the NYE drop version on Decentraland.
Jamestown is a real estate company that owns the One Times Square, a story building positioned in the center of City Square in the populous New York City where the annual NYE drop on the eve of New Year occurs. The renowned event is hosted on the building’s roof, with the event starting at sunset. This year, however, the event will happen virtually instead of the physical.
Jamestown Reiterates the Importance of the Metaverse
While celebrating the historic event, Jamestown emphasizes the importance of the metaverse in the housing sector. The prominent real estate firm disclosed that fostering the virtual and real worlds together will revolutionize real estate.
According to him, the metaverse is a paramount part that will drive the evolution of the housing industry. It will grant people access to beautiful locations that would have been slightly impossible to reach in the physical. This proximity will enhance the user’s experience.
Simon Koster of DCG, said that the iteration of the internet is constantly evolving and bringing the most exquisite physical places within close proximity in the virtual sphere. Koster expects the virtual world to continue to better the current online landscape.

NYE Drop Will Correspond With MetaFest
The upcoming NYE drop on the decentralized metaverse will begin sixty minutes before midnight Eastern Standard Time. This virtual NYE ball event will mark the first time such a grand celebration will take place in Web3.
NYE Drop won’t be the only show on December 31st. The celebration corresponds with MetaFest, a worldwide event that will feature international music acts, games, galleries, etc.
