Many in the state of Tanzania are taking a keen interest in cryptocurrencies. In fact, the investors therein are investing in cryptocurrencies with their eyes shut. Perhaps, they may have been keeping an eye on the growth of cryptocurrencies since 2009. But when somebody wants to trade then education with regard to the trading product is a must. Similarly, if one were to trade cryptocurrencies, then it is also essential that education is obtained first.

According to local blockchain companies in Tanzania, crypto and blockchain education is lacking in the country. But thanks to the local blockchain companies, in 2021, crypto and blockchain awareness campaigns were initiated throughout the country. Seminars, as well as roadshows, were organized to educate people about the technologies. Even the country’s President Samia Suluhu Hasan also backed such awareness campaigns and she even insisted that the technologies must be embraced.

The combined efforts of Tanzanian blockchain entities and government functionaries, crypto and blockchain education level has gone up. Meanwhile, crypto adoption is also growing like a wildfire in the country. Consequently, the Bank of Tanzania has had to step in often to apprise people about the risks associated with crypto adoption.

However, an educator of blockchain in Tanzania, namely Sandra Chogo, said that basic, as well as technical education, is compulsory. She said that though blockchain has been adopted rigorously in the country, yet campaigns and roadshows won’t be enough. She insisted that most of the Tanzanian crypto traders and investors are either not aware of the risks or haven’t been informed. Both the situations are not favorable for neither of the two. She believes that under the ‘right to information, dissemination of education on the subject must be provided at all levels compulsorily. On the other hand, such an education under the right to information will minimize the risks of crypto scams.

She further argued that people are not aware of what to do when they are encountering a scam. Usually, the offers rendered to them by the scammers are such that none can simply overlook them. People must be made aware of how they can find out whether there is any legitimate opportunity or whether the opportunity is a fraud scheme. It is this lack of knowledge that makes people to fell for a scam. Otherwise, the scams could have been avoided in the first place because the offers are so fake that they don’t look real at all. But knowing that crypto is a high-yielding business that the offers look true to those who are keen on crypto investment.

Secondly, she noted that the Tanzanian crypto space needs more women in the industry. Although there are women who are crypto investors in Tanzania yet at the blockchain education level there are none.
